The Episcopal Church

It is the Anglican Communion province based in the United States, led by a Presiding Bishop and governed by a bicameral General Convention of bishops and deputies.

Its first bishop, Samuel Seabury, was consecrated in Scotland in 1784, and the church was organized after American independence through the first General Convention in 1785. It comprises dioceses in the United States and in several other countries and territories, and its worship centers on the Book of Common Prayer of 1979.
