Secular Humanism

Secular humanism builds life on reason, science, and human compassion without religion, aiming at dignity, freedom, and flourishing for every person in this world.

Secular humanism is a life stance that seeks human flourishing without appeal to gods or revealed religion. Drawing on the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, it trusts reason, science, and democratic values, and takes responsibility for the future of humanity and of the planet we share.

Ultimate Reality

Reality is the natural world science describes; secular humanists are generally naturalists about what exists. But its center is not matter — it is the human person, whose dignity gives the universe whatever meaning it will have.

The Human Condition

The human problem is not sin against a god but the evils we can name and fight: ignorance, poverty, disease, tyranny, prejudice, and war. None of these is fated. Education, science, and just institutions can steadily improve it.

Knowledge and Truth

Knowledge grows by free inquiry: question everything, test claims against evidence, and change your mind when the evidence changes. No scripture, party, or tradition is above criticism. This fallibilism — knowing we may be wrong — is what makes reliable knowledge possible.

Right and Wrong

Ethics is built from human needs, empathy, and the consequences of our actions — not from divine commands. Secular humanists typically defend human rights, equality, free expression, and care for the vulnerable, judging rules by whether they protect people and help them flourish.

Human Destiny

This life is the only one we know we have, which makes it precious rather than cheap. Death is final, so meaning is made here: in love, work, discovery, and what we leave behind.

The Conversation

We share with secular humanists a love for this world, respect for honest inquiry, and concrete concern for human dignity — and we can often work side by side for the hungry and the oppressed. Our difference is foundational: dignity, we believe, is given by a Creator, not declared by ourselves — and this life is not all there is.
