It is the Anglican province for Nigeria, one of the largest provinces of the Anglican Communion, led by the Primate of All Nigeria in Abuja.
The Church of Nigeria traces its origin to the Church Mission Society missions of the nineteenth century, including the Niger mission associated with Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther. It became an autonomous province of the Anglican Communion in 1979 and has since expanded into many dioceses across Nigeria.
