Church of Uganda

It is the Anglican province for Uganda, shaped by the memory of the Uganda Martyrs executed in the 1880s and led by the Archbishop of Uganda in Kampala.

The Church of Uganda traces its origin to Church Mission Society missionaries who arrived in Buganda in 1877, followed by the martyrdom of Bishop James Hannington and many Ugandan Christians. It became an autonomous province in 1961 as the Province of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Boga Zaire, and today the Church of Uganda stands as its own province.
