Judaism
Judaism is the covenant faith of the people of Israel: one God chose them, gave them his Torah, and calls them to holiness and justice in this world.
Judaism is the faith of the Jewish people, rooted in God's covenant with Abraham and with Israel at Mount Sinai. It centers on the one God who created the world, chose Israel, and gave the Torah through Moses.
Ultimate Reality
There is one God: eternal creator of heaven and earth, all-powerful, without body or equal. He hears prayer, keeps covenant, and rules history with justice and mercy. Giving God's place to anything else — idolatry — is the root error.
The Human Condition
Human beings are made in God's image, free to choose good or evil. We struggle between good and evil inclinations and we do wrong, but repentance — turning back to God and repairing what we broke — is always open. Life in this world matters deeply.
Knowledge and Truth
God has made himself and his will known in the Torah and the whole Hebrew Bible, studied and interpreted through generations of rabbinic teaching in the Talmud and beyond. Argument and careful study are themselves acts of devotion.
Right and Wrong
Right and wrong are God's commandments, the mitzvot of the Torah: justice in society, honesty in business, care for the poor, the widow, and the stranger, and holiness in daily life. Deeds matter; Judaism stresses righteous action more than correct belief alone.
Human Destiny
Traditional Judaism looks for the coming of the Messiah, the resurrection of the dead, and the world to come. In this life the emphasis falls on faithful living now; views of the afterlife vary among Jewish movements.
The Conversation
This site honors Judaism as the root from which Christianity grew: Jesus, his apostles, and the first church were Jewish, and the Scriptures we share are Israel's Scriptures. We share one God and much morality. Our honest difference is over Jesus — whether he is Israel's Messiah — and we raise it with respect, not pressure.
