It is the oldest Reformed denomination in the United States with a continuous ministry, tracing its first congregation to Dutch New Amsterdam in 1628.
The Reformed Church in America began with a Dutch Reformed congregation organized in New Amsterdam in 1628 under the Classis of Amsterdam. It became independent of Dutch oversight after the American Revolution and kept the Three Forms of Unity as its doctrinal standards. It is governed by consistories, classes, regional synods, and a General Synod.
