Nichiren Buddhism

The school of the monk Nichiren, which holds the Lotus Sutra alone as the true teaching for this age and chants its title as the whole practice.

Nichiren Buddhism began in thirteenth-century Japan with a teacher who proclaimed the daimoku, the chanting of the Lotus Sutra's title, and denounced the other schools of his day. Its branches divided over his legacy, and its lay movement, Soka Gakkai, carried it worldwide.
