The lay movement of Nichiren Buddhism founded in 1930, which carried the daimoku worldwide and broke with the Nichiren Shoshu priesthood in 1991.
Soka Gakkai is the largest of the Nichiren movements and one of the largest lay Buddhist movements in the world. Since its separation from the priesthood it has stood as an independent lay tradition within the Nichiren family.
