Pure Land

The school that entrusts itself to Amida Buddha's vow: birth in his Pure Land through the nembutsu, the calling of his name, as the path open to all in the latter age.

Pure Land is the most widely practiced form of Buddhism in East Asia. Its teachers held that in this degenerate age self-power fails and the Other-power of Amida's Primal Vow carries the believer; in Japan it became the independent schools of Honen and Shinran.
