Struggling with Sin
Tagged: Christian
The passage
Paul describes the war that goes on inside a person who loves God's law. The law is holy and good, and it exposes sin for what it is; but the good he wants to do he does not do, and the evil he does not want is what he keeps on doing. The passage is the Bible's most honest account of the divided self, and it drives toward his cry for a deliverer.
Where it stands
Romans 7 stands between the death to sin of chapter 6 and the life in the Spirit of chapter 8. The struggle it describes is not the end of the story; it is the ground on which the next chapter's “no condemnation” is built.
