What happened

Aid to the Church in Need, the Catholic charity that supports persecuted Christians, launched the 2026 edition of its report Persecuted and Forgotten? on October 27, 2026. The report surveys the countries where Christians face oppression for their faith, and it compares conditions with the position two years earlier.

The findings

The report finds that persecution worsened in more than half of the countries surveyed, and that it improved in none of them. Conditions deteriorated in ten countries, among them China, Nigeria, and Pakistan. In Nigeria alone, at least one million Christians have been displaced. The report attributes the worsening to violence and extremism, and it records Christians leaving their home countries in growing numbers.

Why it is recorded here

The freedom of Christians to practise their faith is one of the standing questions this site tracks across the world views. This post records the report and its findings as its publisher states them; the full report is available from Aid to the Church in Need, and the launch is reported by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales at the source link on this page.
