“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good”

The passage
“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!” The psalm then gathers four companies of the rescued: wanderers in the desert, prisoners in darkness, the sick at death's door, and sailors caught in the storm at sea. Each cried to the LORD in their trouble, and each was delivered, and the refrain calls them to thank Him.
Where it stands
Psalm 107 opens the fifth and final book of the Psalter. It is the Psalter's great psalm of thanksgiving for deliverance, and its opening line sets the key for the whole collection that follows.
