The Transfiguration of Christ

The passage
Jesus takes Peter and James and John up a high mountain by themselves, and He is transfigured before them: His face shines like the sun, and His clothes become white as light. Moses and Elijah appear, talking with Him, and a bright cloud overshadows them, and a voice from the cloud says, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”
Where it stands
Matthew 17 follows immediately on Peter's confession at Caesarea Philippi and the first prediction of the cross. The glory on the mountain answers the scandal of that prediction before the disciples go down to the valley and the road to Jerusalem.
