Tithes and Offerings prosper the Nation, “test” the Lord

The passage
God charges His people with robbing Him, in their tithes and contributions, and He invites the one test He ever invites: “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.”
Where it stands
Malachi is the last book of the Old Testament, a series of disputes between God and a discouraged post-exilic Judah. The tithe dispute is the fifth of them, and it turns on a simple exchange: a people withholding from God, and God promising abundance to the nation that returns to Him.
