The Word (Christ) Became Flesh

The passage
John's Gospel opens in eternity: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. Then verse 14 states the incarnation in one sentence: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Where it stands
John 1 is the Prologue, sung as a hymn before the Gospel's story begins. Where Matthew and Luke open with the birth at Bethlehem, John opens before creation itself, and reads the whole life of Jesus from there.
