“Behold I will create new heavens and a new earth”

The passage
God announces a creation as new as the first: “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.” What follows describes Jerusalem as a joy and her people as a gladness, with weeping heard in her no more.
Where it stands
Isaiah 65 answers the long prayer of chapters 63 and 64. The promise of new heavens and a new earth is taken up at the end of the New Testament, in Revelation 21, as the final state of the redeemed creation.
