“In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth”

The passage
The Bible's first sentence stands before everything else it says. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Creation has an author, and the author is God, acting before there is anything else to act on Him.
Where it stands
Genesis 1 is the creation account that opens the Torah and the whole Bible. Its first verse is the frame for the six days that follow, and the rest of Scripture reads the world through it.
