Community of Christ

Community of Christ is distinct among Restorationist bodies in being led by a prophet president and a First Presidency, and in accepting the Doctrine and Covenants as an open canon of scripture.

Community of Christ was organized in 1860 as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints under Joseph Smith III, and it adopted its present name in 2001. Its headquarters and temple are in Independence, Missouri, and the temple is dedicated to the pursuit of peace. The church ordains women to priesthood, a practice approved in 1984.
