Arya Samaj

Dayananda Saraswati's society of 1875: back to the Vedas, against image worship and caste by birth, for education and the purification of converts.

The Arya Samaj is the most combative of the reform movements: it reads the Veda as the sole authority, rejects the Puranic worship of images, and built schools, orphanages, and missions across northern India.
