Acharya Tulsi, the ninth acharya of the Terapanth, launched the Anuvrat movement at Sardarshahar in 1949, offering laypeople small vows, anuvrat, against dishonesty, greed, and violence as a discipline for public life. The movement carried Terapanthi teaching far beyond the Jain community and made Tulsi a national figure in the moral reconstruction of the new Indian republic.
