Lutheran Church Missouri Synod

It is a confessional Lutheran synod founded in 1847 by Saxon German immigrants, known for requiring strict subscription to the Book of Concord among its pastors and congregations.

The synod was founded in St. Louis in 1847 by Saxon Lutheran immigrants who had come to Missouri under Martin Stephan and then C. F. W. Walther. It holds that Scripture is the inerrant word of God and that the Lutheran Confessions are its correct exposition. It is the second largest Lutheran body in the United States and is not a member of the Lutheran World Federation.
