Kngwarreye painted for ceremony in sand and body paint for most of her life before acrylic on canvas reached Utopia in 1988. In eight years she made some three thousand paintings, each a mapping of her Dreaming country: yam roots under the surface, emu tracks, the green after rain.
No freely licensed portrait or canvas photograph of hers exists in the commons; she is represented here by the Qantas 787 that carries her Yam Dreaming across the world as livery, captioned honestly as exactly that.
