Significance
The Transfiguration, on August 6, recalls Jesus going up a mountain with Peter, James, and John and being transfigured before them in glory. Moses and Elijah appeared with him, and the Father's voice declared him the beloved Son. The feast sets the glory of Christ before the Church in the weeks before the commemoration of his cross.
Observance
Mass celebrates the glory revealed on the mountain, and the day is kept forty days before the Exaltation of the Cross.
