Significance
Reformation Day, on October 31, is a Protestant commemoration of the beginning of the Reformation. It marks the day in 1517 when Martin Luther posted his Ninety-five Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. Lutheran and Reformed churches observe it, often on the day itself or the nearest Sunday, as a call to the gospel and to continual reform of the Church.
Observance
Lutheran and Reformed congregations hold Reformation services, often singing Luther's hymn 'A Mighty Fortress Is Our God'.
