Recurrence: Western Easter computus (the second Sunday of Lent, 35 days before Easter Sunday).
Significance
The second Sunday of Lent continues the forty-day fast and formation of the season. In the three-year lectionary its Gospel is most often the Transfiguration, set before the Church as a glimpse of glory on the road toward the cross. Catechumens preparing for baptism at Easter undergo the first of the scrutinies in these weeks.
Observance
Fasting, prayer, and almsgiving continue, and catechumens preparing for Easter baptism are prayed for in the scrutinies.
