Significance
Corpus Christi, the solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, gives thanks for the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. It falls on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, and in many provinces it is transferred to the following Sunday. The feast dates from the thirteenth century and is closely associated with Saint Thomas Aquinas, who composed office hymns for it.
Observance
A Eucharistic procession carries the consecrated host through the streets in a monstrance, and Benediction is given.
