Significance
The Annunciation, on March 25, celebrates the angel Gabriel's announcement to Mary that she would conceive and bear the Son of God. Her consent, the fiat, stands at the opening of the Incarnation. The feast falls nine months before Christmas, on the day tradition also associated with the creation and the crucifixion.
Observance
Mass celebrates the announcement and Mary's consent, and the Angelus prayer is closely associated with the day.
