The Rosary is a meditative prayer that moves through the life of Christ and Mary on a circle of beads.

How It Is Practiced
The one praying holds a circle of beads arranged in five decades and prays an Our Father, ten Hail Marys, and a Glory Be for each decade, opening with the Apostles' Creed and closing prayers. While the lips repeat the familiar prayers, the mind meditates on one of the Mysteries — joyful, luminous, sorrowful, or glorious events in the lives of Jesus and Mary. A full rosary of five decades takes about twenty minutes and is prayed alone, with family, or in church groups, often before Mass.
Purpose and Meaning
The Rosary joins vocal prayer to meditation. Its repetitions are not meant as an end in themselves; they hold the body and the wandering mind steady so that the events of Christ's life can be considered one by one. Catholics describe it as a school of contemplation and a prayer for peace, and it is traditionally a prayer of intercession, offered for particular people and needs.
