Catholic

Embraced

The Church’s own astronomers were among the first to confirm Galileo’s observations, and the Collegio Romano celebrated them; the instrument itself was never condemned. What Rome policed was a conclusion and an exegesis, not the device — a distinction the conflict story habitually erases.

Islamic

Embraced

Ottoman astronomers adopted the telescope within years of its invention (Taḳī al-Dīn’s Istanbul observatory already worked with the best pre-telescopic instruments). The instrument entered Islamic astronomy as an instrument; no fatwa against it exists, and its historians record use without controversy.
