The liturgical language of Mandaeanism, an Aramaic dialect with its own script and literature.
Mandaic is the Aramaic dialect of the Mandaeans of Iraq and Iran, a Gnostic tradition that venerates John the Baptist. Its scriptures, above all the Ginza Rabba, are written in a distinctive script used for almost nothing else, and its priests still copy manuscripts by hand.
